Ever wonder how history affects us today? I will tell you one part of history and how it affects you today. Particularly the part about the Roman empire<\/strong>. The things I shall teach you about the Roman empire, that affect you today<\/strong> are: today’s legal systems<\/strong>, empires <\/strong>and a lot of wars<\/strong>. In my opinion history is very important to learn, because it can teach you as much about present things as it can about past things.<\/p>\n

We’ll start about talking how today’s legal systems are affected by the Roman empire<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The Roman model<\/strong>\u00a0was a legal system that was used during the Roman empire. The legal system <\/strong>has a large central government<\/strong>, that is able to levy\u00a0taxes<\/strong>, make war and create inflation<\/strong>. This causes unemployment<\/strong> and poverty<\/strong>. The Roman model was the predecessor of political law<\/a><\/strong>. Almost every country in the world has political law as it’s legal system<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The Roman disease<\/strong>\u00a0is the assumption that laws can be made by lawmakers<\/strong>, instead of judges discovering<\/strong> laws, like in common law<\/strong><\/a>. The Roman disease created the Roman model<\/strong> and statism<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Statism<\/strong> is the assumption that political power is good<\/strong> and that we should embrace it. It also assumes that government can solve problems<\/strong> and that to solve these problems you should use force<\/strong>. The last thing it assumes is that the governments laws are the most important and only type of law<\/strong>. Statism<\/strong> originated from the Roman empire<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

If you don’t believe me that all this came from the Roman empire<\/strong> then i have proof with me. At the end of the Roman empire<\/strong> there was\u00a0crushing taxes<\/strong>, inflation<\/strong>,\u00a0a lot of poverty,\u00a0unemployment<\/strong>\u00a0and they we’re fighting against barbarians. <\/strong>When the barbarians invaded<\/strong> the Roman empire<\/strong>, the roman citizens welcomed them as their savior. The things i mentioned here we’re only a few things<\/strong> that we’re happening at the end of the Roman empire<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The second way that the Roman empire affects us today<\/strong>, are the several empires<\/strong> popping up every few centuries.<\/p>\n

The reason politicians want to build empires<\/strong> is, because they want to recreate the Pax <\/a>Romana<\/strong>. (if you don’t know what the Pax Romana<\/strong> is then click this link: link<\/a><\/b>) The politicians want to create it due to the strong central government<\/strong>. They don’t care about the peace part.<\/p>\n

The reason these empires die is, because of the roman disease<\/strong>. The citizens get sick of<\/strong>, high taxes<\/strong>, inflation<\/strong>, war<\/strong>, poverty<\/strong> and high unemployment<\/strong>, which is all caused by the Roman disease<\/strong>. Then what happens next is either they get attacked by somebody else and the citizens welcome<\/strong> them or the citizens rebel against the government<\/strong>. Example’s of these empire’s<\/strong> are the Soviet empire<\/strong>, the Roman empire<\/strong>, the British empire<\/strong>, the Ottoman empire<\/strong>, and more<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

After the empire fall’s the empire splits into small pieces<\/strong>. Without a good legal system<\/strong>, like common law<\/strong>, the small territories start warring <\/strong>with\u00a0each other. After a while of continues wars<\/strong> one territory starts rebuilding the empire before it<\/strong>. It becomes a endless loop of empire -> small territories \u00a0-> empire <\/strong>and so on.<\/p>\n

A example of an\u00a0empire falling<\/strong> a part. Then after the empire fell small countries start warring with each other to become the new empire. This is the<\/strong>\u00a0Soviet empire<\/strong>. When the Soviet empire fell it split into a lot of countries<\/strong>. Very soon some of these countries will <\/strong>start fighting again<\/strong>. We’ve already seen countries in the Eastern-Balkans<\/strong> and in the Caucasus fighting with each other<\/strong>, but that is not all. The’re will soon be more to come.<\/p>\n

Lastly the third way that the Roman empire affects you today<\/strong> is a ton of wars<\/strong>. I mean a ton of wars<\/strong>. I don’t<\/strong> only mean the wars that it fought during it’s existence.<\/p>\n

You might be wondering how the Roman empire caused a lot of wars after it collapsed<\/strong>. I will tell you how this happens. First<\/strong>, the Roman disease<\/strong> created the Roman model<\/strong> and statism<\/strong>, which leads to politicians wanting to build empire’s<\/strong>. Empire’s want to expand their empire<\/strong>, they declare war on other countries. See the connection<\/strong>? The countries the Roman empire\u00a0actually declared war<\/strong> on are the wars it\u00a0directly<\/strong> caused. The other wars it caused with the method i just taught you,<\/strong> are the indirect<\/strong> wars the Roman empire<\/strong> caused.<\/p>\n

A example of a war that was caused by the legacy of the Roman empire<\/strong> was WW1<\/a><\/strong> and WW2\u00a0<\/strong>(World War 2 blog post coming soon). the Roman empire<\/strong> caused Germany<\/strong> to want to build a empire<\/strong>, like the British and the Soviets<\/strong> \u00a0in WW1<\/strong> and WW2<\/strong>. It obviously didn’t work out for the Germans<\/strong> very well.<\/p>\n

Another example of a war that was caused by the legacy of the Roman empire<\/strong> was the war between Christians and Muslims<\/strong>. The war started when the Byzantine empire<\/strong> fell, which was replaced by the Ottoman empire<\/strong>. The Christians didn’t like it that the Ottoman empire was Muslim<\/strong> and they wanted their land back<\/strong>. The Christians fought a few wars in the Balkans<\/strong>, but it stopped eventually. Then after the Ottoman empire<\/strong> came the Soviet empire<\/strong>. The Christians got their land back during the Soviet empire<\/strong>. When the Soviet empire fell it got split into a lot of countries. Now the war between the Muslims and the Christians <\/strong>is coming back with a vengeance. There could be wars\u00a0in the areas that were controlled by the Soviet empire<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

To summarize, the Roman empire affects<\/strong> today’s legal systems<\/strong>, the drive to establish empires<\/strong> and a lot of wars<\/strong>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
